PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential job functions/listing all physical and mental demands of the job are as follows:

1.         Analyzes system operations, policies, procedures, and planning to devise strategies and methodologies, which will enhance financial performance and/or value for customers.

2.         Reviews current and projected governmental regulations, legislation, and other external matters having financial implications and formulates appropriate responses or strategies.

3.         Oversees the system's capital financing relationships, helping to assure the highest practical debt ratings.

4.         Oversees the system's financial operations, which include strategic financial planning, budgeting, cash management, borrowing activities, investment management and banking relationships.

5.         Assures that proper patient, financial, management and clinical information is obtained, documented, preserved and reported or made available to those who need access to it. Is responsible for development and/or enforcement of policies, which impact this responsibility.

6.         Interacts with members of the community to promote good public relations for the hospital. Attends meetings of professional civic, and service organizations as a representative of the hospital.

7.         Subscribes to and projects support for Customer Service philosophy and for fulfillment of the Patient Care Expectations as enunciated by the hospital. Is accountable to see that such support is forthcoming from all subordinates.

8.         As a member of executive management, maintains an awareness of the mission, goals, and corporate objectives of the hospital and is accountable for those aspects that impact areas of responsibility outlined above.

9.                   Performs all duties normally expected of a member of executive management, including, but not limited to, forecasting, budgeting, personnel selection, training and evaluation, systems and policy design and evaluation, resource management, and public advocacy for the hospital.

10.               Negotiates or assists in the negotiation of contracts and agreements with external entities.  Reviews new and renewing agreements.

11.               Shares responsibility with President/CEO in legal and insurance matters.  Reviews and negotiates rates for all insurance policies.

12.               Understands the importance of patient safety and safety of the environment and actively participates in safe practices.  Identifies and reports potentially hazardous situations as outlined in hospital procedures.  Takes immediate action when necessary to protect the health and well being of patients, visitors, and/or co-workers.  Works collaboratively to find ways of safeguarding patients.

13.               Performs such other duties as may be assigned from time to time.   

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited college or university, with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration or Accounting. Expertise in financial management should be clearly established in academic preparation, with at least two of five years' minimum experience in an executive position directly related to hospital financial management. 

Aptitude and leadership potential must have been amply demonstrated in prior work experience.  Certification as a Public Accountant required, MBA preferred.
