Director of Regulatory Affairs/Staff Attorney

Department: Legal

Reports to:     General Counsel                      

Location: ( DFW) TX

Function: Support the General Counsel in attaining organizational goals and objectives by performing legal functions. Plans, organizes and completes work supporting these goals and objectives in an accurate professional manner.

Duties: 

• Primary contact for day-to-day issues arising with each state’s respective Department of Insurance and associated insurance regulatory agencies.
• Primary contact for the product management/development and claims departments on all legal issues.
• Develop and implement a uniform compliance program for the company.
• Maintain all managing general agency, general agency, and retail producer legal relationships and agreements.
• Responsible for all reinsurance legal activity including documentation and preserving of organizational legal interests.
• Monitor legislative or regulatory changes affecting the company and any of its subsidiaries.
• Proactively review, research, and assess insurance law matters of the company as such matters arise.
• Provide reports on pertinent regulatory developments
• Other duties as assigned.

Discretion/Latitude

• General supervision provided to ensure that work is being performed consistently within expectations
• Latitude allowing choice in approaches and in prioritizing among activities

Requirements: 

• J.D.; Licensed (preferably in Texas )
• 7+ years of relevant legal work experience in the insurance industry, preferably in the property and casualty insurance field
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions and adjustments upon notice
• Effective time management (understands priorities and uses time wisely), Multi-tasking and problem solving skills
