the Director of Finance contributes to Organization and SSHC by ensuring the agency’s financial health, compliance, and sustainability. Your leadership ensures that the systems, strategies, and structures supporting SSHC’s mission are sound, transparent, and aligned with long-term growth. You will oversee all fiscal operations of the organization—including accounting, budgeting, reporting, and auditing—while guiding a team committed to excellence and accountability. Your work ensures that SSHC’s funds are managed with integrity and that resources are available to support prevention, education, and direct services for thousands of community members across Chicago’s South Side.
As a vital member of SSHC’s leadership team, you will partner with the Executive Director and Program Directors to develop grant budgets, monitor expenditures, and prepare clear, actionable financial reports that inform decisions at every level of the organization. You will also serve as the key liaison to funders, auditors, and the Finance team, ensuring compliance with all state, federal, and private grant requirements.
The Director of Finance enhances the reputation of the organization and SSHC by maintaining financial excellence, meeting compliance standards, and promoting integrity in every transaction—building trust with funders, staff, and the communities we serve. You will be a passionate advocate for our top initiatives. To be successful as a Director of Finance it is crucial to ensure that organizational core Values and Mission stay top of mind with all that you do. A collaborative organizational structure where staff are accountable to multiple leaders.
The Director of Finance will work as a part of a close knit team to safeguard financial integrity, strengthen systems, cultivate staff growth, and align financial strategy with organizational goals.
REQUIREMENTS: Licenses/ Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA preferred. Minimum 7 years of nonprofit finance experience, including federal and state grant management. Supervisory experience required. Non profit experiences are a plus. Health care experiences are a plus. Must have superior organizational and communication skills. Financial systems expertise required.
