The Senior Contracts Accountant is responsible for providing advanced financial oversight and ensuring compliance with complex grant and contract portfolios. This role includes verifying the feasibility, accuracy, and proper documentation of expenditures in accordance with funder requirements, managing expenditure tracking, invoicing, drawdowns, and general ledger reconciliation, as well as preparing and reviewing financial reports and reimbursement requests.

Additional duties include interpreting contract terms, resolving billing and budget discrepancies, supporting audits and monitoring reviews, responding to funder inquiries, identifying and mitigating financial and compliance risks, assisting with budget development and amendments, implementing internal improvements, maintaining comprehensive financial records, and conducting financial analysis using SAP S/4HANA and other systems. The Senior Contracts Accountant also provides support for special projects and offers advisory input on financial status.

This position plays an integral role in strengthening the organization's grant contract management framework and actively participates in financial management and accounting activities related to government and/or non-profit grants. Post-award grant accounting is conducted to ensure compliance with Cost Principles outlined in 2 CFR Part 200 Subpart E and all other relevant jurisdictional accounting standards.

Working as part of a close-knit team, the Senior Contracts Accountant will participate in ad-hoc analyses, process improvement initiatives, and risk assessments related to profitability, growth, and productivity.

Requirements:

·        Undergraduate degree in Business or a related field

·        Minimum five years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping

·        Expertise in grant and contract accounting preferred

·        Strong understanding of compliance and cost principles

·        Proficiency in budgeting, expenditure tracking, and reconciliation

·        Experience in financial reporting and invoicing/drawdowns

·        Audit and monitoring support (Single Audit, funder reviews)

·        Ability to accurately interpret contracts and grant terms

·        Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

·        Exceptional attention to detail and documentation discipline

·        Proficiency with SAP S/4HANA or similar accounting systems and Excel

·        Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
